How To Make A Website Into An App On Iphone
How To Save A Website To Your iPhone/iPad Home Screen
There's an app for everything! Well…almost.
The great thing about Apple products (and other smart devices) is you can save a website to your home screen on your iPad or iPhone that mimics an app. Basically, you will have an app-like icon that is a shortcut for the site that you visit frequently. You can quickly access the site without having to open Safari first, type in the site, and hit go.
A perfect example is the Jackrabbit Staff Portal and Parent Portal. With the portals being mobile friendly, the experience will feel just like it would if you were using an app for the App Store. And if you log into Jackrabbit a lot from your phone or tablet, add that one too!
Just remember, any login screen you save will still require you to login when using the app-like icon.
How can you save a website as an app-like icon to your iPhone or iPad?
Saving a website shortcut to the home screen of your iPhone or iPad is pretty easy but the time it will save you when you are on the go makes the pay-off much greater.
First things first, you need to navigate to the website you want to save. In order for the shortcut to be an option, you need to use Safari to pull up the site.
At the bottom of the Safari browser, find and tap on the share icon on the menu bar – it looks like a box with an up arrow.
From the list of share options, choose Add to Home Screen.
An app-looking icon will pre-populate. Give it a name that is recognizable to you.
Once you click Add at the top, your new 'app' will appear on your home screen for you to organize if you wish!
And that is it, my friend! Impress your colleagues or friends and share this tip at your next lunch or get-together. I am sure at least one person will thank you for it!
